Cut audio — just the part you need
Drop a file, drag the start and end handles in the waveform, listen to the selection, export it. The cut happens entirely in your browser, the recording is never uploaded — which is exactly the point for interviews, voice memos and private recordings. The result is a new file; your original stays untouched.
How precise can an audio cut be?
This tool works on the decoded audio and therefore cuts sample-exactly — at 44.1 kHz that is 1/44,100 of a second. Classic MP3 cutting without decoding cannot do that: an MPEG-1 Layer III frame holds 1152 samples, which at 44.1 kHz is exactly 26.12 milliseconds. Such a cut always lands on a frame boundary.
What does cutting cost in quality?
The selected section is encoded once more. With a lossy source (MP3, M4A, OGG) that means a second compression — usually only audible at low bitrates or after repeated rounds. If you want to be safe, export to WAV (lossless but large) or pick a bitrate at least as high as the source.
How do I remove a piece from the middle?
In two steps: export the part before the unwanted passage, then the part after it, and join both with the merge tool. Keeping these separate is deliberate — you get to hear the actual result after each step.
Why does a cut edge click — and what helps?
Because a hard cut makes the waveform jump from full level to zero within a single sample; that step is a very short, very broadband impulse, and you hear it as a click. The fade option deals with it: 30 milliseconds is plenty for speech, and there is a one-second setting for music. Both ramps are shortened automatically if the selection is shorter than the fade. If you place the cut in a pause anyway, you do not need it at all — which is why it can be switched off.
How do I make an iPhone ringtone?
Use the ringtone preset. It puts the end 40 seconds after your start marker, switches
the target format to AAC and downloads the file with the .m4r extension. Both come
from Apple: the media library will not accept a ringtone longer than 40 seconds, and
.m4r is simply a renamed AAC file in an MP4 container. To transfer it, drag it onto the
connected iPhone in Finder or iTunes. If your browser cannot encode AAC, the button stays
greyed out — with a reason, instead of an error after the click.
Honest limits
- Up to 30 minutes per file. For cutting, the recording must sit decoded in memory: roughly 21 MB per stereo minute at 44.1 kHz.
- One section per run. Each pass produces exactly one file; for several passages, cut them one after another.
- The fade is linear, not a curve editor. For shaped transitions, an audio editor is the right tool.
- Formats: anything your browser can decode goes in — MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, FLAC and, in most browsers, OGG.
